Irene Luft, 32, studied at Akademie Mode und Design in Munich, Germany

Her collection – Space Opera

Irene was inspired by the idea of ‘Space Opera’ which she believes embodies the romanticising of our society.

“The freedom to believe, think and express governs and drives new obsessions from us. What yesterday was considered perverted, is today the philosophy of a few, tomorrow it will cause a new cultural streaming which will be lampooned as regular and normal the day after tomorrow.”

“We always try to live faster and more efficient and achieve more things in one day. It is not enough anymore to live an alternative life style or support new artists. You are just considered different when you present yourself extremely differently every day. The lifestyle borrows itself the power of fashion to obtain expressiveness.”

“We live in a Space Opera where futuristic thinking gets essential for us and where we create every day a new utopia for ourselves. The decadence goes hand in hand with pride and rules the world which each one has created for himself.”

“When my collection, I have converted the extreme theatrical and majestic opulence of the baroque in to the absolute and futuristic of our time, although I combine the decorative and abstract in one collection. I confronted myself with the following question during the development of the collection: how will the perfect woman of an idealised world of tomorrow look?”
